I agree with the notion that spending three rounds in combat channelling and still failing is bad and I don't think I'll be doing that often even if I ever get a high-XP game with a wizard. It's not my style - I'd rather go Elf and aim for the instacasts - but I don't think it's bad. Guns shoot every other round (at best), so having a Blast go off every other round doesn't actually seem bad. I suppose the alternative to 2.5 is to emphasize channelling instead, with 3 aethyric attunement, and take a model of casting every other round. I expect to cast Comet of Casandora exactly once, but if it works it will be worth it. Only use them when conditions favour them, like, to open an attack on an enemy camp when they aren't expecting you. T2.75 catch your channelling up to your language, and buy those big doom spells that are super-impressive. T2.5 (other people are on T3): scale your Int up to >60 and your language up to >20 so you can reliably cast blast and bolt without advantage. Don't channel, cast every round failing sometimes (just like everyone else). Scale up your Int and language, pick up blast and maybe bolt but don't cast them without advantage. Cast them fairly reliably because CN 3 isn't that hard, especially with advantage. Buy your first arcane spells as low-CN things like Entangle and Fearsome. T2: get here relatively late because your T1 is relatively long. Also probably be an elf because why wouldn't you? I expect that it's going to go like this:Ĭreation: max out Int and WP, put ten ranks in Language, cast your cantrips and be both effective in combat and utility. (Might be placebo though, I dunno, I just did it automatically without thinking.Click to expand.I think there are substantial problems with the magic system and with the wizard career ("everything being at tier 2" being the main one), but I don't think actually casting is going to be the main problem.
#INSTACAST WIZARD MOD#
Note: this mod and the extra AI conditionals mod (which it's designed to work with, though it can work without it) are a bit old though, so you might have to delete the version numbers from the manifest.json for this and for the custom AI conditions mod (delete the game number versions so you're left with just two quotation marks together: "" ). Great basis to work from and tweak further to your heart's content.
#INSTACAST WIZARD ZIP#
Out of the box, it's a hefty thing with a bazillion scripts, but basically you just duplicate it to a new named script, zip through it and delete everything that's not relevant to your class(es) and then you have something cleaner and more manageable that's specific to each character. scripts for all the base classes, all together in one big script) but grouped by function and sequenced properly, with cooldowns and all (like in that note I posted in the spoiler above). It's a "universal" AI script with all the things, (i.e. I love micro-managing too, but I also find it fun to do this sort of thing. I mean I'm exaggerating to get the point across of course, but it is a little bit like that. It also means you can focus more on directly controlling your main character, which adds a little bit to the immersion. Particularly with the hyper-detailed graphics of POE2, and if you're always zoomed in so that the action fills the screen.

And sometimes when they do something daft that means you have to pull their fat out of the fire ("Nooo, don't aggro that lot over there yet!" ), it's amusing - again, it makes them seem a bit like miniature beings with their own will. You still have to nudge them along now and then.īut that's the point: it actually does feel a little bit like you're giving independent beings orders (while playing) as opposed to actually controlling them. Oh you still have to keep an eye on things, proactively pause, check conditions and all that - things can still go south pretty quickly if you don't.
